Just as on Saturday, the United States is without its captain on Tuesday when it takes on Uruguay in an international friendly.

Christian Pulisic remains out of the side as the USMNT wraps up its November international slate.

Pulisic currently plays his club football for A.C. Milan, and he wasn't a part of the U.S. Roster called up for the friendlies this week.

Why isn't Christian Pulisic playing tonight?

Pulisic isn't playing for the U.S. Against Uruguay because he is still recovering from a hamstring injury.

He was originally hurt in the United States' October match against Australia, and he didn't return for Milan until this past Saturday, when he played 20 minutes off the bench.

"Speaking with the people at Milan, but also when I was leaving the national team, we had good conversations," Pulisic told CBS Sports' Kate Scott. "I haven't come back and played yet, so I don't think it's right for me to fly over there and try to get my first games back with the national team when I just want to make sure I have the time now to fully care for myself and make sure that my hamstring is doing well and allow other guys to take the place. So I think it's just the best decision for everyone right now."

The United States is obviously in a key moment for its squad, approaching the hosting of the 2026 World Cup in the summer.

"Right when it happens, it's so frustrating," Pulisic told Scott. "You have all those thoughts, Why now? Things were going so well at the beginning of the season. It seems to happen that way but honestly I trust in God's timing. I trust in that it's the best thing for me and to be honest, it's not like it's not the worst thing ever. I was out a couple of weeks and now I'm already back, so I'm lucky that it wasn't as bad as it could have been, so I'm trying to see it from the positive perspective."

A.C. Milan's next match is a big one, this upcoming Sunday against crosstown rivals Inter Milan. Pulisic will likely feature, although potentially off the bench again.

At this point, as far as the USMNT is concerned, it's all about building Pulisic back into strong form by the end of the Italian Serie A season so that he can roll into the World Cup.
