Premier League records: Most points, goals, appearances and season tallies at the start of 2025/26 image

The 2025/26 Premier League season begins on August 15 and runs through to May 24 next year.

Liverpool will be hoping to defend the title they won with surprising ease last term, particularly after investing around £300 million in the transfer market, but they will expect stern opposition from Arsenal, Manchester City, and possibly Chelsea.

Aside from the glory of winning the title, qualifying for Europe or simply surviving the relegation battle, there are Premier League records that could be up for grabs this term for certain sides and star names.

The Sporting News looks at the Premier League record books at the start of the season to see where there could be new ground broken.

Premier League records

The Premier League features a huge list of team and star player records. Here are some of the key ones to keep an eye on in 2025/26.

*All data correct as of August 15, 2025.

Most Premier League goals by one team in a season

Unsurprisingly, Pep Guardiola's Man City find themselves at the top of this list after scoring an incredible 106 goals on route to winning the 2017/18 Premier League title, and Guardiola's first in English football.

City under Guardiola dominate the top-five list in this category, although the top-scoring side has not always won the title.

Most Premier League goals all-time by player

Haaland made an outrageous start to life in English football by breaking Shearer's joint one-season record, but he has long way to go to overhaul the former England international as the Premier League's top gun.

Shearer netted 260 Premier League goals prior to his retirement in 2006, and he will remain unchallenged in the coming years, after second-place Harry Kane opted to join Bayern Munich.

The list of all-time Premier League appearances includes some famous names and career veterans with an incredible tally of 13 players racking up 500+ games in the competition.

Gareth Barry tops the list, but the evergreen James Milner is closing the gap as he continues at Brighton & Hove Albion.

City's incredible goal tally in the 2017/18 season was also matched by a record points high as Guardiola's charges amassed 100 points from 38 games played.

Liverpool have the unwanted record of securing the highest points total without winning the title in a set campaign, after finishing one point behind City in 2018/19.

Fewest Premier League points in a season

From the incredible benchmark set by City for points gained, at the opposite end of the table there have been some paltry totals set by teams sliding through the relegation trap door.

Derby County's 11 points from 2007/08 remains the lowest ebb, although Southampton ran them close in 2024/25.

Chelsea's title-winners under Antonio Conte in 2016/17 are the only other team to manage 30 wins in one campaign.
