Lionel Messi headed to India for a chance to tour in front of his huge fanbase.
Dubbed the "GOAT Tour," Messi had events scheduled in four different cities.
In Kolkata, though, things quickly got out of hand.
Messi was visiting the Salt Lake Stadium, and his presence had to be cut short due to chaos.
"Video from ANI showed fans throwing ripped-up stadium seats and other objects onto the field and the athletics track at the site, with several people who had climbed over a fence surrounding the playing field hurling objects."
Messi had been scheduled to be in the stadium for 45 minutes. He had to be escorted out after 20 minutes.

The Argentine legend, coming off winning MLS Cup with Inter Miami, was also scheduled to make visits to Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi.
Tickets to the Messi event in Kolkata had a starting price of $38.65, according to The Independent.
That same report indicates that the chief organizer of the event in at the Salt Lake Stadium was detained by police "so that this mismanagement does not go unpunished."
Messi's countryman, Diego Maradona, unveiled a statue of himself in Kolkata in 2017. In a virtual ceremony, Messi did the same on Saturday.
Clearly, the fandom for Messi extends all around the world. But sometimes, the fact that "fan" is short for "fanatic" rears its ugly head, and that appears to be what happened on this Messi visit.
