Cristiano Ronaldo has shared a heartfelt message after a special moment with a young mascot before Portugal’s 5-0 win over Armenia.
The Portugal captain was seen comforting the child, who was in tears as he walked out onto the pitch alongside the legendary forward.
The game was Portugal’s first since the tragic passing of Liverpool star Diogo Jota, and emotions were running high.
Ronaldo, who continues to lead his nation at the age of 40, made sure the young fan felt supported in the tunnel and on the field.
Later, he posted the video on X, writing: “I made a new friend yesterday. Grateful for the love and support every single day and I hope everyone gets to follow their dreams!”

Ronaldo scored twice on the night, bringing his tally to 140 international goals. Fittingly, his first came in the 21st minute — the same number Jota wore for Portugal.

A mascot, a message, and a memory
The moment stood out not only for its tenderness but also for its timing. Portugal needed a lift in their first game back since Jota’s loss, and Ronaldo provided both inspiration on the field and comfort off it.
Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo also paid their own tributes to Jota during the match, showing how deeply the forward is missed in the squad. Manager Roberto Martínez said afterward that the team played with Jota “in their hearts.”
With Hungary next on Portugal’s schedule, all eyes will be on Ronaldo once again. But for one young fan, the biggest memory won’t be the goals.
It will be the hug, the joke, and the message from a superstar who proved he is more than just numbers on a scoreboard.
