Is Christian Pulisic the best player in Serie A?
There is no question that, based on recent performances to begin the 2025-26 season, Christian Pulisic is the most in-form player in Serie A.
While there is still ultimately a challenging case to be made that he is the best player across all of Serie A, his ranking among the top stars in the league is surely climbing each and every week.
Overall, Inter and Argentina star Lautaro Martinez is likely considered the best attacking player in the league, while his teammate Alessandro Bastoni is one of the best defenders in the entire world. Atalanta star Ademola Lookman won African Player of the Year as recently as last December and remains in Italy after failing to force a move abroad this past summer, while young Como star Nico Paz is beginning to be internationally recognized for his breakout performances.

Pulisic is also battling against the titanic figure of superstar Rafael Leao at his own club, as the Portuguese winger is beloved by Milan fans even as his world-class level of performance has dipped over the last 18 months. Additionally, new additions to the Italian top flight have deepened the competition, as the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Jonathan David have complicated the top of the player pool.
According to analytics website FBRef, Pulisic's statistical profile compares most similarly to the likes of Matheus Cunha of Man United, Fermin Lopez of Barcelona, and PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, among others. While those players don't see themselves as the best in their respective leagues, the general lack of top-level talent in Serie A gives Pulisic a chance to make a case for such a claim.
At this point, there's no debating that Pulisic is among the upper echelon of talent in the Italian top flight, and remaining at this level of performance across the whole of the campaign could see him cemented as a world-class player. Heck, Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay found himself nominated for the Ballon d'Or after being named 2024-25 Serie A Player of the Year — if he can do it, surely Pulisic can with a larger sample size at this elevated level.
