Bayern Munich star Harry Kane reveals the importance of finishing in top 8 in the Champions League image

Bayern Munich were not at their best last season in the Champions League as the Bavarians finished in the 12th spot in the points table following the end of the group stage.

The Germans could only win five out of the eight Champions League fixtures and suffered three defeats, which pushed them out of the top eight spots and forced them to play the playoffs.

They eventually got eliminated in the quarterfinal against Inter Milan and Bayern Munich stalwart Harry Kane believes not finishing in the top eight in the Champions League points table was a turning point for the club last season.

"It's important to finish in the top eight because these additional playoff games make a big difference for the season. Last season that was our most stressful period. It made a huge difference. We need six wins or five with a few draws. That's why it's important to have a good start right away," Kane told BILD in his recent interaction.

Bayern Munich dropping out of the top eight mean that they had to feature in the playoffs and with multiple injuries under their belt, it didn't help Vincent Kompany's men in an overall stressful campaign.

Therefore, this time they will be more cautious in finishing in the top eight places in the Champions League despite facing top teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and defending champions PSG.

What did Kane say about Bayern Munich new signing Nicolas Jackson?

Bayern Munich have only reached the Champions League semifinal once in the last five seasons and therefore the hype around the German champions is considerably less this time.

However, Kane and the Bavarians will look to change the narrative as they embark on another Champions League campaign which starts against Chelsea at home on September 17.

The German giants have signed Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea on loan to provide Kompany with more options in attack.

Recently, Kane also heaped praise on the Senegalese, who is known for his athleticism, speed and goalscoring capabilities.

"If you follow the Premier League, you can see that he has many good attributes," Kane told Sky Sports about Jackson. "He creates a lot of chances. And he's here to help the team. We're already working together in training and finishing together."

"I feel he can have a big impact for us this season, with his speed, his movement, and his goals. He's a great addition for us. I didn't know him very well. We played against him in the summer [England vs Senegal], and he made a very good impression, he played a really good game."

It will be interesting to see Jackson in action for Bayern when they take the field against his parent club, Chelsea in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old featured in Bayern Munich's 5-0 win over Hamburg in the Bundesliga and even in his short stint, he showed enough quality to flourish in a talented forward line.
