Newcastle United step up interest in Premier League star to replace Alexander Isak image

Newcastle United are in a massive conundrum with their main man Alexander Isak, deciding to go on strike with his wish to join Liverpool whereas the Magpies aren't ready to let him leave until their demands are met.

In the meantime, Isak has made himself unavailable for selection which has hampered Newcastle United's plans at the start of the Premier League 2025/26 campaign.

Eddie Howe was forced to start Anthony Gordon upfront against Aston Villa where despite having a couple of chances, he failed to score the decisive goal for the Magpies.

Therefore, Newcastle United are pushing to sign a new striker who could replace the Swedish sensation and while there have been many players in the shortlist, it seems the Tyneside outfit have finalized their man.

According to reports via Daily Mirror, Newcastle are closing in on Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen as the Magpies are ready to meet Wolves' demands to land the Norwegian forward as early as possible.

Wolves have slapped a £60m ($80.5m) asking price for the 25-year-old and given Newcastle's dire situation without a designated number 9, the Tyneside club are ready to match the demands just to land Larsen at St James Park.

Several reports have also suggested that Larsen is also keen to join Newcastle United despite Wolves being reluctant to sell a player whom they have signed last season from Celta Vigo.

Who is Wolves marksman Jorgen Strand Larsen?

Strand Larsen started his career at Norwegian outfit Sarpsborg before making the right noises at Groningen. He eventually moved to Spain when he joined Celta Vigo in August 2022.

The Norwegian moved to Wolves on loan in 2024 with an obligation to buy at €30m ($40.2m) transfer fee.

Strand Larsen found his feet with some great performances as he finished with 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season.

Stading at 6ft4in, Strand Larsen is an imposing figure in the final third as he is known for his smart movements in the penalty area, great finishing and exceptional ball-striking abilities.

Given Howe's track record of improving players, Strand Larsen could benefit from joining Newcastle United as he is an ideal player for the Magpies.

Howe has been desperate for attacking firepower after losing Callum Wilson and now Isak upfront, therefore Newcastle United intend to waste no time in securing the signature of the 25-year-old.
