Manchester United are reportedly preparing to dip back into the Bundesliga market, this time with Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic in their sights ahead of the January transfer window.
After another shaky start to the season, United’s midfield remains a concern. Manager Ruben Amorim is said to be pushing for a new defensive midfielder to bring balance to the squad.
The club missed the chance to sign Carlos Baleba last summer, and it looks like they don’t want to make the same mistake twice.
Scouts from Old Trafford were spotted during Germany’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland, where Pavlovic was reportedly the main focus of their attention.
United also kept tabs on Dortmund duo Karim Adeyemi and Nico Schlotterbeck, but the Bayern youngster seems to have caught the most eyes.

A Carrick clone or another “one that got away”?

According to Football Insider, United are preparing an official bid for the 21-year-old midfielder, whose market value sits around €55 million.
Former United scout Mick Brown has described Pavlović as “somebody who gets about the pitch, isn’t afraid to put their foot in, has a drive and energy about him.”
The comparisons to Michael Carrick have not gone unnoticed either. Pavlovic has built a reputation for his calm passing and strong defensive reading — two things United have sorely missed in recent seasons.
However, reports claim the player himself is not eager to leave Bayern just yet, with his contract running until 2029.
If United do manage to tempt him away, he would become only the second German international to join the club after Bastian Schweinsteiger — a move fans still have mixed memories about.
With options like Adam Wharton, Morten Hjulmand, and Carlos Baleba also being monitored, United appear determined to reinforce their midfield spine this winter.
Whether Pavlovic ends up trading the Allianz Arena for Old Trafford remains to be seen, but one thing’s certain — the Red Devils are finally tackling their midfield issue head-on.
Because right now, United need less chaos in the middle and a little more control — the kind a young Bavarian might just bring.
