Harry Maguire became the first Manchester United player to score a Premier League winner at Anfield since 2016 as the Red Devils eked out a 2-1 victory over their arch rivals.

Bryan Mbeumo's goal inside the first two minutes silenced the home crowd asLiverpool's recent form struggles continued on Merseyside.

Arne Slot's team have now lost their last four games in all competitions as United won two league games in a row for the first time under Ruben Amorim's leadership.

Mbuemo's quickfire finish came in controversial style, as United played on with Alexis Mac Allister down injured, and Maguire's late winner shone more light on Liverpool's disjointed defence.

Despite captain Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate being the two players most 'at fault' for the goals, United defender Matthijs de Ligt admitted it was full-back pair Conor Bradley and Milos Kerkez who were targeted in Amorim's game plan.

"We knew Liverpool had weaknesses, and that's their full-backs," he told Viaplay.

"We were all really hyped, and the focus was very high. It was a game you really had to be concentrated in."

Slot replaced Bradley with Jeremie Frimpong on 62 minutes, but Kerkez completed the full game, and Frimpong and Andy Robertson are expected to start the UEFA Champions League tie at Eintracht Frankfurt on October 22.

Bradley has not started a European game so far in 2025/26, with Frimpong at right-back vs. Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray, and Robertson and Kerkez starting one each.
