Kobbie Mainoo’s rise at Manchester United has hit a major obstacle, with the 20-year-old midfielder asking for a loan move before the transfer window closes.

The midfielder first broke into the first team in November 2023 and scored in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, but has seen his playing time now become limited.

According to The Athletic, Mainoo told United officials on Thursday [August 28] that while he wants regular football to aid his development, he has no intention of leaving permanently.

Reportedly, his concern lies in securing enough minutes particularly with World Cup scheduled to take place next year in USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

The midfielder has been left on the bench in league games against Arsenal and Fulham, only starting in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby

United have reportedly no interest to sanction his move and turned down his request.

Mainoo’s role started to decline since Amorim’s appointment last November. Stockport born has made 16 starts in 45 matches.

The defeat at Grimsby only deepened worries with United now facing a stretch of league fixtures until their FA Cup campaign begins in January.

Although Red Devils are unlikely to approve a move, the next three days will be worth watching in case the club’s stance changes.
