Alejandro Garnacho has finally spoken out about his time at Manchester United, describing it as a “bad moment in life” but insisting he holds no grudges.
The Argentine winger, now at Chelsea, gave his take after helping the Blues to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Once considered one of Old Trafford’s brightest talents, Garnacho’s career in Manchester ended under a cloud.
Reports claimed United boss Ruben Amorim grew frustrated with the 21-year-old’s attitude on and off the pitch, even going as far as to tell him to look for a new club last summer.
Garnacho was then left training away from the first team, a far cry from the big stages he had dreamed of.

Reflecting on that chapter, Garnacho told TNT Sports: “I think it was a difficult moment there, just training alone. But I have nothing bad to say about the club, my old club Manchester United. It was just a bad moment in life, but now I’m very happy to be here and to play in this competition and to get the three points today.”
The move to Chelsea, worth around £40m, handed him a fresh start. And while he is still waiting for his first goal in blue, he has already shown flashes of why the club took the gamble.
Against Benfica, his energy and pressing drew praise from manager Enzo Maresca, who said Garnacho “was very good today… not only on the ball but defensively too.”
Speaking about playing in the Champions League, Garnacho added: “Of course, yeah. When we were young we dreamed of playing Champions League nights and we are here now so I’m very happy. It’s three big points. We needed that after losing our first game so we’re all very happy.”
For a player who went from Amorim’s “bomb squad” to starring under the lights of Europe, it feels like Garnacho has flipped the script.
And while his Old Trafford exit may have been bitter, his Stamford Bridge story looks set to be much sweeter.
