Taylor Swift’s latest album has set off a storm on Merseyside – and not because of her chart-topping vocals. The pop superstar has bizarrely found herself caught up in one of Liverpool’s most painful football sagas.
Her new record The Life of a Showgirl, released on Friday, includes a track titled Wi$h Li$t. Buried in the lyrics, Swift sings about luxury, fame, and, oddly enough, a “contract with Real Madrid.”
That small line has sent Liverpool fans into meltdown, as many see it as a nod to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s controversial departure to the Spanish giants.
The 26-year-old defender ran down his deal at Anfield before making the switch for just £8.5m – a move that stunned supporters.
His final games were played to boos from the stands, and now even Taylor has, intentionally or not, reminded Reds fans of the painful exit.

How Liverpool fans reacted to Taylor Swift’s new album lyric?
Social media quickly lit up. One fan posted: “LIVERPOOL SWIFTIES do not listen to track 8 of the new Taylor Swift album – she brings up a sensitive topic for you guys.”
Another joked: “Taylor Swift shading Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card.”
Others weren’t so lighthearted, with one user fuming: “Even Taylor Swift got involved with the Trent saga ffs.” And memes spread fast, with a popular one captioned: “Trent listening to this new Taylor Swift album!”
Ironically, Alexander-Arnold has previously admitted he’s a Swift fan. Asked to pick a favorite song, the England international once revealed: “I actually do, you know, Anti-Hero … I listen to that.”
For Madrid fans, the crossover might be entertaining. For Liverpool fans, it’s more like salt in a fresh wound.
Swifties may be dancing, but Kopites are left asking: did their hometown star really just get a lyrical red card from America’s biggest pop name?
