Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal with Newcastle United to sign Alexander Isak for £130m [$175m], ending one of the most dramatic transfer sagas of the summer.

According to Sky Sports, the Reds will pay £125m [$168m] fixed, with the deal done on Deadline Day.

The 25-year-old striker signed for Newcastle in 2022 and was contracted until 2028 but had grown unhappy on Tyneside.

Previous month Liverpool had a £110m [$148m] offer with add-ons turned down as Newcastle wouldn’t sell without strict conditions.

Despite that, Isak pushed for the move, went on strike and released a statement saying the club had failed to honour promises about his career progression.

His stance forced the parties back to the table. Liverpool wanted to strengthen their forward line and eventually came back with a revised package that met Newcastle’s valuation.

Isak will  reportedly be in Merseyside on Monday for a medical and then the deal is expected to be confirmed before the window closes.

The Swedish international was key to Newcastle’s revival under Eddie Howe, scoring big goals in the Premier League and Europe.

But Liverpool’s persistence and Isak’s desire to join Arne Slot's squad swung it in their favour.
