Chelsea have triumphed in the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup with a thunderous victory over all-conquering Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday.
The Blues secured a historic title by winning the first of the newly formed Club World Cup, expanded to 32 teams and extended to once every four years.
This competition has, however, existed since 2000, when FIFA first envisioned a knockout tournament for clubs from around the world.

Have Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup?
Yes, Chelsea have won the FIFA Club World Cup twice, with the 2025 victory being their second.
The Blues first triumphed in 2021 by beating Brazilian club Palmeiras 2-1 in extra-time in the final from Abu Dhabi, UAE. Kai Havertz bagged a 117th-minute penalty to secure victory, adding to Romelu Lukaku's 54th-minute goal.
Then, in 2025, they secured a historic victory by beating defending UEFA Champions League winners PSG 3-0 to lift the trophy again. Cole Palmer scored two goals in that game and Joao Pedro also found the net, all before halftime to leave the French giants stunned.
Prior to beating PSG, Chelsea were also the last European champions to fail to win the Club World Cup, falling to Brazilian club Corinthians in 2012 by a 1-0 score in Yokohama, Japan.

Previously, the only way for a European team to contest the Club World Cup was by winning the UEFA Champions League. For the expanded 32-team edition in 2025, Chelsea were one of 12 European entrants by virtue of their 2020/21 Champions League win, which fell within the four-year qualification period.
The remaining spaces were decided by UEFA's co-efficient rankings so it is feasible that Chelsea could compete at the 2029 edition, even if they fail to win the Champions League between now and then.
