Chelsea have been linked with a move for Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig all summer long. But there seems to be a twist in the tale at the last moment.
Despite being heavily linked with a move for the Dutchman all summer long, the Blues never submitted an official bid for him, and now, they might live to regret it.
Chelsea’s Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, have swooped in at the eleventh hour to hijack the Blues’ move for the player, and now, he looks set to join the North London side.
Spurs seem to have convinced Simons to change his mind about joining them instead of Chelsea, as the player initially only wanted to join Enzo Maresca’s side.
With the player now on the verge of joining Spurs, the ball is now in Chelsea’s court as to whether they want to make a late swoop for the player.
Though the West London side have the option of making a late move for the player, it looks as though they will not exercise it.

Chelsea decide they won’t make late move for Xavi Simons
On Friday morning, The Athletic claimed that Spurs are set to complete the signing of Simons after agreeing a deal worth around £52m. ($69m).
The Dutch international has reportedly agreed on personal terms and completed a medical in London on Thursday.

Journalist Matt Law has now added via X that Chelsea have “no intention” of hijacking Simons’ imminent move to Spurs at the last minute.
Chelsea’s decision is in keeping with an earlier decision to focus on bringing in another winger instead of an attacking midfielder this summer.
Chelsea’s final decision to exit the race for Simons will leave supporters wondering what they do next in the final few days of a dramatic summer transfer window.
