The Vancouver Canucks have already traded away Quinn Hughes, which pretty much opens them up entirely for business.

The next name to go could be gritty forward Kiefer Sherwood.

The Ottawa Citizen's Bruce Garrioch reports that six NHL teams have "kicked the tires" on a trade for Sherwood:

  • Boston Bruins
  • Dallas Stars
  • New York Islanders
  • Ottawa Senators
  • Philadelphia Flyers
  • Tampa Bay Lightning

Sherwood got off to a fast start this season scoring. At this point, he has played 33 games, scored 13 goals and dished out four assists. And of course, he has 146 hits.

Sherwood had a remarkable 462 hits last season to go along with 19 goals and 21 assists in 78 games.

The 6-foot native of Columbus, Ohio will turn 31 in March.

Sherwood is currently playing on a very affordable $1.5 million salary, which both should have lots of teams interested and should help the Canucks get a solid return for him in a deal.

The only downside: Sherwood will be a free agent after the season. So it makes perfect sense for the Canucks to move him, but he'll just be a one playoff run player for the acquiring team, unless he is then re-signed.
