Canucks' Brock Boeser sets Vancouver franchise record for special goals image

The Vancouver Canucks were flying high on opening night.

They thrashed the Calgary Flames, 5-1, and in the process, Brock Boeser set a franchise record.

Boeser entered the night tied with Markus Naslund for most season-opener goals in franchise history, with eight, according to Sportsnet.

And against the Flames, Boeser notched a goal. Make that nine goals in season openers, and a new franchise record in the process.

It certainly helps that a few years ago, Boeser had a four-goal game to open the season.

But all told, he knows how to show up when the lights first turn back on again.

Boeser has been everything Vancouver could've wanted. The Canucks drafted him No. 23 overall out of North Dakota in 2015.

He broke into the NHL in the 2016-17 season as a 19-year old, and he is just beginning his 10th season in the league, all with the Canucks.

Boeser has played 555 games and scored 205 goals with 230 assists (435 points).

The winger had a slightly down season in 2024-25, with 25 goals and 25 assists (50 points) in 75 games.

But he has had a 40-goal season and three different seasons of more than 30 assists in his tenure as a Canucks winger.

For Vancouver to put together a solid season, it'll need Boeser to be at his best.

Maybe the Canucks should just convince him every game is the first one of the season. He certainly knows how to perform on that opening-night stage.
