This year's NHL Winter Classic is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2, to start the new year.
The Florida Panthers will face the New York Rangers in the annual classic. Each year, the Winter Classic is held in either a football or a baseball stadium, and this year it'll be at LoanDepot Park, the home of the Miami Marlins.
This Winter Classic location is special for several reasons. For one, it's the southernmost the annual game has ever been.
On top of that, it will be the first outdoor game in NHL history in the state of Florida. That's right, the Winter Classic is in the "Sunshine State."
