Rangers defenseman Adam Fox and goaltender Igor Shesterkin will each be out of commission for the New York Rangers, both with lower-body injuries.
The New York Rangers dealt unfortunate injury news on Tuesday
Fox was placed on long-term injured reserve on Tuesday and must miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days, making him ineligible to return before Jan. 31. The Rangers’ top defenseman will be reevaluated when he is eligible to be activated.
There isn’t any confirmation as to when Fox was injured, but the 27-year-old defenseman tallied 23 minutes of ice time in the Rangers' 3-2 overtime loss to Utah on Monday. He took his final shift with just 3 minutes in regulation.

On the goaltender side, Shesterkin, New York’s No. 1 goaltender and the NHL leader in games played this season, was placed on injured reserve after he was hurt early in the first period Monday. He fell backward in the crease and could not put weight on his left leg before being helped off the ice and down the tunnel.
Fortunately for the Rangers, goaltender Jonathan Quick stepped up, stopping 15 shots in relief against Utah. The 39-year-old veteran, drafted in the 2005 draft 72nd overall by the LA Kings, is expected to handle the workload in net while Shesterkin is out. Shesterkin is 17-12-4 with a 2.45 goals-against average and.913 save percentage in 34 games this season.
It’s Fox’s second absence of the season, tallying 14 missed games from Dec. 2-29 with an upper-body injury. He has 28 points, four goals, and 24 assists in 30 games. The Rangers are 20-18-6 and have 13 games remaining before the break for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, beginning with Thursday’s home game against the Buffalo Sabres.
