Rangers reveal why Mika Zibanejad isn't playing tonight as punishment image

Mika Zibanejad won't be playing for the New York Rangers on Monday night.

They've decided to sit him down for one game as punishment.

Why?

Zibanejad missed a team meeting, according to The Athletic's Vince Mercogliano.

The Rangers affirmed it'll be a one-game absence and Zibanejad will be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Rangers coach Mike Sullivan told reporters that "there are logistical challenges the city presents" that didn't help Zibanejad be on time.

"Mika understands the importance of the rules that we all expect of one another," Sullivan added.

Sullivan also explained how the team views the veteran.

"He feels terribly," Sullivan said. "The one thing about Mika is he's an honest person. He's a great human being, and he takes responsibility for it."

This is Zibanejad's 10th season playing for the Rangers. Through 33 games this season, he had 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points.

The Rangers are home against the Ducks on Monday without Zibanejad. He'll be back on the ice Tuesday night when New York hosts the Canucks.
