Andrej Sustr couldn't quite breakthrough and make it to the New York Islanders this season.
They gave him a shot with AHL Bridgeport, but the 35-year old defenseman wasn't at the top of his game.
Now, the 6-foot-7 Sustr is heading to Europe.
Sweden's Kalmar HC has announced that Sustr has signed a free agent contract with them.
The Islanders had cut Sustr from his deal earlier in December.
Sustr opened this season on a tryout contract in camp with the New York Rangers, but he ended up in the Islanders' system instead.
He hasn't actually played in the NHL since 2021-22 with the Ducks.
Sustr has played 361 NHL games in his career.
He had gone to Europe in each of the last two seasons before trying to make it back to the NHL this year.
Sustr has spent time playing in Germany and Czechia, as well.
He's definitely on the tail end of his career, but this is a chance for the big guy to keep playing hockey and keep his professional life alive as long as he can.
