The Edmonton Oilers, at full strength, have the incredible offensive tandem of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

At least for a little while, though, they'll be without Draisaitl.

The Oilers announced Saturday that Draisaitl is leaving the team temporarily.

Why isn't Leon Draisaitl with the Oilers?

Draisaitl is away from Edmonton to attend to a family matter.

This is what the Oilers announced:

"Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl will be taking a brief leave of absence to attend to a family illness in Germany. He is expected to return to the team later next week. On behalf of Leon, the club asks for privacy at this time."

Draisaitl is a 30-year old superstar.

This season, in 48 games, he has 25 goals and 42 assists (67 points).

In his career, he has 1,023 points in 838 games, broken down as 424 goals and 599 assists.

Draisaitl has played all 838 of his career NHL games with the Oilers after being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.
