Sports really can be the best sometimes.
In June, the Chicago Blackhawks drafted Mason West in the first round of the NHL Draft.
But they let West finish out his high school football career this fall. And he didn't disappoint.
Playing for Edina High School in Minnesota, West and the Hornets pulled out a 42-35 win. It was their first state championship since 1978.
West completed 7-of-7 passes as the QB for 78 yards and two touchdowns.
Chase Bjoorgard, who is the Edina hockey team's goalie, ran for 320 yards and has six total touchdowns.
The Edina Hornets football team just won their first Minnesota state championship since 1978 with the Chicago Blackhawks’ first-round draft pick playing his senior year at QB, and the hockey team’s goalie scoring 6 TDs in the title game.

This ends up being such a cool opportunity given by the Blackhawks. West and his best friends will never, ever forget this moment.
Whether or not he makes it in the NHL, West will always be a hero in Edina.
Chicago had made him the No. 29 overall pick. He has played in the USHL in addition to being a high school star for Edina.
There's no telling what the rest of his athletic career holds. But in the final football game of his life, West won a state championship. That can never be taken away.
