The Buffalo Sabres felt they had to do something.
And on Monday, they did it: Kevyn Adams is out as GM.
The Sabres announced that Jarmo Kekalainen is the new general manager.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that this isn't an interim move, and that Kekalainen will be the full-time GM going forward.
Sabres owner Terry Pegula released this statement:
"Jarmo has distinguished himself over the last eight months, and his experience, professionalism, and drive speaks for itself. I am looking forward to him leading our organization to the next level."
Adams became the Sabres' general manager on June 16, 2020, so this is about five-and-a-half years in that role.
The Sabres have not been to the postseason since 2010-11, the longest streak in NHL history.
After a promising start to the season, the Sabres have now fallen to last place in the Atlantic Division.
At the time of this move, Buffalo is 14-14-4, good for 32 points through 32 games, with a goal differential of negative-11.
Adams did preside over the trade away of Jack Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights, the most notable move of his time at the helm.
