Sabres' Josh Doan reveals where he wants to play next season in restricted free agency image

The Buffalo Sabres clearly picked out a good return in the J.J. Peterka trade.

Josh Doan has shown he has star potential since arriving midway through last season, and now the Sabres get to decide what to do with him next.

Doan will be a restricted free agent after the season, and he was asked about it recently.

His feelings are quite encouraging for the Sabres, via The Athletic's Matthew Fairburn.

“I want to be here," Doan said. "That’s something me and my agency and my family have made clear. I want to be in Buffalo, and I want to play here. The support I’ve gotten since I got here has been amazing. I laugh with my family, where my old man didn’t leave where he was once, and I’ve been on my way three times now. It’s something at the end of the day, though, I do want to be in one place and grow with a group. I think this is the group to do it with. We have a lot of fun and young guys here.”

Doan is likely looking at something like $7 million per year.

He has played 40 games for the Sabres this season so far, and he has 12 goals and 15 assists.

The Sabres have moved Doan up since he arrived, and he's now on both the top line and the first power-play line.

Doan won't turn 24 years old until next month, so it's clear he's got a long NHL future ahead of him.

And based on these comments, it seems he wants to take on that future in Buffalo.
