When the Buffalo Sabres traded away J.J. Peterka, there was fear among the fan base that they gave up a young star.
Well, Josh Doan came back from the Utah Mammoth in the deal and has proven to be a young star himself.
Doan has been good enough that the Sabres have now signed him to a long-term contract extension.
The deal was reported on Wednesday night by ESPN's Emily Kaplan.
Josh Doan contract details
- Years: 7
- AAV: $6.95 million per season
- Total value: $48.65 million
Doan, 23, was in line to be a restricted free agent this summer.
Now, he's not going anywhere for a while.
This season, Doan has 15 goals and 20 assists for Buffalo in 49 games.
This is the first deal worked by new general manager Jarmo Kekkalainen.
The Sabres are 16-3-1 since Dec. 9 and trying to end their 14-year playoff drought.
