The Boston Bruins have traded away one of their most physical players.
The Bruins announced Friday that Jeffrey Viel has been sent to the Anaheim Ducks.
Viel is a 28-year old forward who has played in 64 NHL games total between the Bruins and the San Jose Sharks.
He was an undrafted free agent signing by the Sharks in 2019 and has grinded his way to this point.
On the season, Viel has 30 penalty minutes and 27 hits. He doesn't mind mixing it up, as the picture at the top of the article shows.
In return, the Bruins received a fourth-round draft pick from the Ducks. It'll actually be the earlier of two fourth-round picks both possessed by Anaheim, either belonging to the Detroit Red Wings or Philadelphia Flyers.
The Bruins have already filled Viel's open roster spot temporarily. They called up defenseman Billy Sweezey from AHL Providence.
Sweezey has played in 34 AHL games this season, notching a goal and 10 assists.
Before this call-up, Sweezey has played in nine games in the NHL, all with Columbus, and has one assist at the top level.
Sweezey is a native of Hanson, Massachusetts, so this must be a cool moment for him.
The Bruins return to the ice on Saturday night on the road at the Chicago Blackhawks.
