While the 2025 season was already wildly disappointing for the Washington Commanders, Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings was particularly disastrous.
For starters, while the Vikings entered the game as losers of four straight, who had lost their previous two games by a combined score of 49-6, they completely dominated the Commanders.
The bigger problem, though, was what happened to quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels returned after missing the team's previous three games (a stretch that included Washington's bye week) with a left elbow injury. The quarterback was re-injured while trying to make a tackle following a third-quarter interception, as he landed awkwardly on his left side after being blocked to the ground.
As if a blowout loss to a non-contender and another injury to the franchise quarterback weren't enough, tight end Zach Ertz was injured later in the game and visibly emotional while being carted off the field.
Sunday was a complete mess for the Commanders. And as the game was going on, several observers were critical of Quinn, with some even calling for his job.
"The 'we lost but were not lost anymore' quote gonna be tough for DQ to explain after this performance. Cant lose 7 in a row, kinda celebrate the 7th loss, and then come drop the 8th like this," JP Finlay of NBC4 Sports said.
"Dan Quinn needs to be fired," a Commanders fan bluntly stated.
"I’m sick to my stomach," another fan remarked. "Fire Dan Quinn"
"If Dan Quinn puts Daniels in for one more second this season he should be fired on the spot," another observer said.
Quinn is in his second season leading the Commanders. It's worth remembering that in his first year, the team reached the NFC Championship Game. So, disastrous season aside, it's certainly possible that he'll keep his job for another year. That said, Sunday's game and the 2025 season overall, have certainly done a lot to offset the equity that he built in 2024.
