Marcus Mariota injury update is bad news for Commanders with Jayden Daniels already out, Josh Johnson backup image

The Washington Commanders are already missing their starting quarterback, Jayden Daniels, due to a dislocated left elbow.

In the third quarter of Sunday's game in Madrid, backup QB Marcus Mariota went down after a play and needed attention from trainers.

It could press QB3 Josh Johnson into action.

Johnson is about as well traveled as any quarterback could be (14 different teams), and he's a veteran presence with some solid athletic skills, but the Commanders certainly wouldn't want to spend a long time relying on their third quarterback if they don't have to.

Marcus Mariota injury update

Mariota was injured in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins.

He was immediately pressured on a dropback and was spun to the ground and took a tough hit.

Trainers came out to check on Mariota after his teammates got their attention.

Johnson came in for the third-down snap and handed off before the Commanders punted.

The NFL Network broadcast showed that Mariota was walking away down the sideline with trainers.

He entered the blue medical tent.

Mariota did emerge from the tent and start throwing on the sideline, so he may be just fine.
