The Washington Commanders are hoping to have quarterback Jayden Daniels ready for the Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, but signs continue to point to Daniels not suiting up.
Daniels is dealing with a knee sprain ahead of Sunday's matchup and failed to take part in practice over the first two days. However, the team planned to re-evaluate things on Friday to see if Daniels might play, so there's still a chance.
Sadly, we're not off to a good start on that front. The Washington Post's Nicki Jhabvala reports that Daniels was not spotted at the open portion of practice.
Jayden Daniels injury update
UPDATE: The Commanders have officially ruled Daniels out for the Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns.
Marcus Mariota will get the start.
END OF UPDATE
"Jayden Daniels is not out here for the media-viewing portion of practice for the Commanders," Jhabvala wrote.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn made it clear on Thursday that Daniels needed to practice on Friday in order to play.
Unless Daniels takes the field during the closed portion of practice, it appears he'll be sitting a game for the first time in his brief NFL career.
If Daniels does indeed sit, Marcus Mariota will get the start for the Commanders in Week 3. While Mariota is a capable backup, he still amounts to a significant downgrade for Washington's offense.
The Commanders will release their final injury report of the week later in the day, so we'll get an update then.
But, as of right now, we'd expect Daniels to be ruled out for Week 3.
