Could Kevin Stefanski choose Washington Commanders OC job over New York Giants? image

The Washington Commanders have made sweeping changes to its coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Joe Whitt, offensive line coach Bobby Johnson, and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury have all been fired.

The latter was a genuine surprise, as Kingsbury had done a good job in his two seasons with the Commanders. Washington made it to the NFC Championship Game in 2024 and were top 10 in yards and touchdowns. In 2025, Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin both missed significant time with injury, yet the Commanders still managed to be respectable on offense.

Could Kevin Stefanski replace Kliff Kingsbury as Commanders offensive coordinator?

While the departure of Kingsbury comes as a shock, CBS NFL insider Jonathan Jones hints that a big name could replace him.

"Just got off the phone with one coaching agent who said the Commanders may get a better coach at OC than one of these teams with a vacancy get at head coach," Jones posted on X.

Could Jones be hinting at former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski? He has become the golden goose of this hiring cycle since being fired by the Browns, and he was the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings before becoming Cleveland's head coach.

While Stefanski has been largely connected to the New York Giants as their potential next head coach, could he opt to run his offense in Washington under Dan Quinn with Jayden Daniels and basically pick where he wants to be a head coach next? There are certainly worse ideas. We saw Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson wait multiple hiring cycles to basically pick where he wanted to go. Stefanski could so the same rather than go to a place like New York, which isn't the most stable place for a head coach, as we've seen time and time again.
