The Washington Commanders are reportedly taking a flyer on former first-round draft pick Treylon Burks.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Commanders are signing the former Tennessee Titans wide receiver to the practice squad, but the expectation is he'll be elevated to the 53-man roster shortly.

"Sources: Former Titans first-round WR Treylon Burks is expected to sign with the Commanders practice squad, with an elevation likely coming quickly," Rapoport said. "Burks had visited Washington and the Broncos. A low-risk, high-reward addition, Burks played in a similar offense in college."

Burks was the Titans' first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft and was picked with one of the selections acquired in the disastrous A.J. Brown trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Burks had the unenviable task of trying to replace Brown, but he never came close to doing that. While Burks did show some flashes, he simply couldn't stay healthy and wasn't very effective when he was on the field.

His best season came in 2022, when he tallied 444 yards and one touchdown over 11 games. In 27 career games (17 starts), Burks has compiled 53 catches for 699 yards and one touchdown.

Burks has yet to play in a game this season, as he just recovered from a fractured collarbone suffered in training camp in what was the latest injury for the young wideout. Burks was cut loose by Tennessee after being cleared to play.

The Arkansas product has a great opportunity in Washington. Noah Brown is out for the next four games after being placed on injured reserve and Terry McLaurin has been banged-up, missing the last three games.

It looked like McLaurin was primed to return this week, but he was downgraded to a non-participant in practice on Thursday, which casts doubt on his Week 7 status. Deebo Samuel is also dealing with a bruised heel and isn't 100%.

Burks offers some versatility, as he can be deployed as a big-bodied slot or on the outside, which gives offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury multiple ways to use him.
