The Philadelphia Eagles need to make some trades before the Nov. 4 deadline passes.
The reigning Super Bowl champions have two major weaknesses, one at cornerback and the other at edge rusher.
Philly had a need along the edge before Za'Darius Smith's unexpected retirement, so that only makes the need more dire. At cornerback, not only is Quinyon Mitchell banged-up, the Eagles don't have a sure starter opposite him.
In case you were wondering, general manager Howie Roseman is likely to pounce on trades that upgrade both positions.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles are "lurking in the trade market" and the expectation around the league is that Roseman is going to focus on both cornerback and edge rusher.
The Eagles are lurking in the trade market, as always. People I've talked to around the league believe cornerback or edge rusher (or both) could be a focus at the deadline. Keep in mind that Philly has already made several trades -- acquiring corner Jakorian Bennett, wide receiver John Metchie III and running back Tank Bigsby -- and those moves haven't paid off yet.
Given what we know about Howie, it's no surprise he's expected to be active.
When it comes to the pass rush, Philly has a pitiful nine sacks in six games. Only six teams in the NFL have less and nobody on the Eagles' roster has more than two.
At cornerback, Mitchell's status remains up in the air for Week 7. That leaves Philly in a position where they might have to start both Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson, both of whom have failed in the other boundary spot across from Mitchell.
Of course, the Eagles could deploy Cooper DeJean on the outside, but that would then leave a hole in the slot, where DeJean normally resides.
Maybe Jakorian Bennett comes back from injured reserve and secures the second outside spot for the Eagles, but that's not something Howie can depend on.
