As if the injury to Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels didn't stink enough, it was even more frustrating when you consider the circumstances.
Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow halfway through the fourth quarter on Sunday night versus the Seattle Seahawks. The problem is that Daniels never should have been in there with the Commanders trailing 38-7.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn faced plenty of backlash after Daniels went down, and rightly so, he failed his franchise quarterback by not pulling him.
On Monday, Quinn admitted he messed up.
"I get that. I've been thinking about it nonstop too and, man, I missed it," Quinn admitted, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala. "That is 100% on me."
Daniels almost certainly wanted to be out there, regardless of the score.
However, sometimes a head coach has to protect his players, and that's especially true for the franchise's most important player. But Quinn didn't do that and it will now cost the Commanders the rest of their season.
X-rays on Daniels' elbow came back negative, which is a good sign, but he still has to get the results of an MRI that will really tell the story.
Even still, Daniels is going to miss a significant amount of time and that's the death blow for the Commanders' 3-6. If he can make it back, the Commanders will be out of playoff contention by then, so it won't make sense to put him back on the field.
