Austin Ekeler injury update: Commanders veteran running back suffers torn Achilles vs. Packers image

Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler has suffered a non-contact lower-body injury.

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter in the team's Week 2 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. Ekeler went out wide as a receiving option for quarterback Jayden Daniels. It looked like he was going to make a move, but instead, he crumpled to the ground. Non-contact lower-body injuries tend to be bad news for players. Based on his reaction when he got the bench, and then as he was being carted to the locker room, it could be a significant injury for the veteran.

Austin Ekeler injury update

Ekeler suffered a lower-body non-contact injury. He went out wide on the field and looked to make try and make a cut and he just crumpled on the field.

The Commanders' running back was visibly upset on the sidelines. He was looked at by trainers briefly on the bench, but was then carted to the locker room.

We do not have an official word on the injury yet. If you ask social media though, it is self diagnosing the running back with a torn Achilles. If that is the case, it would end his season, and could end up being a career-ending injury for the  30-year-old running back.

It was late in the game, but the Packers were quick to rule Ekeler out and they did clarify that it was an Achilles injury.

Imaging will be conducted on Friday morning to confirm, but the belief is that Ekeler tore his Achilles on Thursday night, per Adam Schefter.
