Most NFL fans and analysts probably wouldn't have expected Tennessee Titans rookie Cam Ward to have a brilliant start. His rough beginning was not surprising, and now he leads the league with 15 sacks absorbed in just three games.
When he faces the Houston Texans on Sunday, that number could get even worse.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote:
"On Sunday at Houston, Cam Ward could join a very small club. With four or more sacks, Ward would become only the third first-round quarterback since the AFL-NFL merger to be sacked four or more times in each of his first four games. The others were Saints quarterback Archie Manning in 1971 and Texans quarterback David Carr in 2002."
Given how things have gone so far for Ward and Tennessee, he will most likely join that unfortunate club on Sunday.
The Titans are currently 0-3. Facing the Texans, who share the same record, presents an opportunity for them to grab their first win.
On Sunday, the Titans will have a new offensive play-caller, Bo Hardegree, and Cam Ward is excited about the change.
"I think it's going to be great," Ward said on Wednesday. "He understands the offense as a whole, he understands where my head is at, just what I see on the field. He has experience with the Raiders, and he has been around some great quarterbacks."
Let's see how Titans coach Brian Callahan's decision to hand over play-calling duties to Hardegree plays out.
