Why Buccaneers' Mike Evans is at peace with 1,000-yard streak ending image

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans and his 11 straight 1,000-yard seasons had been one of the most fascinating watches over the past 12 months.

With Evans surpassing 1,000 yards in the dying seconds of last season to keep his streak going and tie Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, 2025 was the chance to break the record and own it for himself.

But injuries and a concussion saw that dream never really even look like happening, as Evans has only played five games this season.

Still, to be tied with Rice is a superb achievement, and while some might think Evans would be a little dirty at not having a shot to break the record, well, in true Mike fashion, he's at peace with it.

"I broke my collarbone and had the concussion in one and I knew it was over," Evans said on  the Buccaneers' Players' Table show. "It is just one of those things that it wasn't meant to be, and that is OK, and I am cool with that. I tied with Jerry Rice, one of the greatest ever, if not the greatest player ever, so that is enough for me. I just want to help my team get to the playoffs now."

Evans so close to history

The fact that Evans was even able to get to 11 straight seasons of 1,000 yards is an incredible effort, and fans would have liked to see Mike have a genuine shot at breaking it.

But a broken collarbone put an end to that, and his concussion, meaning the Pro Bowler has played just five games and totaled 272 yards. So, averaging 242.2 yards per game would get Mike the record, but we know that is out of the realm of possibility unless you are playing Madden.

Still, Evans is at peace with having gotten as far as he did, and now all attention is on the playoffs with the Buccaneers facing a crucial three weeks as they attempt to punch their ticket.

And at the end of the regular season, one of the most-watched streaks in NFL history will be snapped.
