It appears the door is open for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka to play in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions.
The expectation has been that Egbuka would miss Week 7 due to a hamstring injury, and that was only driven home further after he didn't practice on Thursday or Friday.
However, Egbuka is unexpectedly taking part in practice on Saturday, according to Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times.
"Big surprise. Bucs WR Emeka Egbuka is practicing and looks okay. He and Mike Evans are working today. Lavonte David back as well," Stroud wrote.
After practice, head coach Todd Bowles revealed that Egbuka was limited, which is an upgrade for him after not practicing the two days prior. However, Bowles noted Egbuka will be a game-time decision.
This obviously gives hope that Egbuka will play, and his chances are only increased by the fact that he has an extra day to get right with the game versus the Lions happening on Monday night.
Egbuka has been a revelation for the Bucs over the first six games of his career, as the rookie has tallied 27 catches for 469 yards and five touchdowns. His impressive showing comes amid the Bucs dealing with multiple injuries at the position.
Veteran wideout Chris Godwin is expected to miss another game with his fibula injury, but fellow veteran receiver Mike Evans is slated to make his return.
The positive news on Evans and Egbuka is particularly huge this week, as the Bucs will need all hands on deck for what could be a high-scoring affair against the equally elite Lions offense.
