Why Seahawks' 2-point conversion was overturned to count against Rams as 'the craziest ever' image

Al Michaels called it the "craziest" 2-point conversion ever.

The Seattle Seahawks had just pulled within two points of the Rams on a long touchdown to A.J. Barner on Thursday Night Football in a huge NFC West Division clash.

They went for 2 midway through the fourth quarter.

Sam Darnold tried to throw a pass in the left flat, and it was knocked down, and it was ruled incomplete.

But then they went to replay review and overturned the call and gave Seattle the 2 points.

Why did the Seahawks' 2-point conversion count?

Seattle got a huge break.

Darnold's pass to the flat was just backward.

So when it was knocked away, it was actually a fumble.

And after the ball had been knocked away, Zach Charbonnet trotted over and picked it up in the end zone.

Charbonnet likely wasn't thinking about a lateral. He was just being helpful and picking up the football.

But since he was in the end zone with the ball, a ball that was actually live because it had been ruled a fumble, it counted the 2-point conversion and tied the game 30-30.
