With the 2025 NFL draft still going on, the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings have pulled off a trade.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are sending quarterback Sam Howell to the Vikings. Along with Howell, the Seahawks are sending the No. 172 overall pick and are getting back the No. 142 overall pick from the Vikings, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.
The Vikings have been looking for a veteran quarterback to put behind J.J. McCarthy, considering the uncertainty surrounding him after he didn't play at all in 2024 due to injury.
Meanwhile, Howell became expendable after the Seahawks signed Drew Lock and drafted Jalen Milroe. Of course, Seattle is set to start Sam Darnold in 2025 after signing him in free agency in the wake of the Geno Smith trade.

Before being traded to the Seahawks, Howell started in 17 games for the Washington Commanders in 2023 after being drafted in the fifth round in 2022. Howell completed 63.4% of his passes for 3,946 yards and 21 touchdowns to 21 picks, which showed he can be erratic. However, Howell also showed some promise.
He didn't make any starts for the Seahawks in 2024. Now, he'll compete for the backup spot behind McCarthy against Brett Rypien, a competition he has a good chance to win.
