TL;DR
- Seattle Seahawks are one game behind Rams in NFC West race after Week 12 win.
- Seahawks are adding former Vikings and Rams running back Cam Akers to their roster.
- Akers joins Seattle to provide depth for the running back corps, especially with injuries.
Following a decisive Week 12 victory against the Tennessee Titans, the Seattle Seahawks are now just one game behind the Los Angeles Rams in the race for the NFC West's leading position.
Despite Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba's strong performances, the Seattle Seahawks' rushing attack requires enhancement. Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet have performed adequately, yet there's potential for further development.
As Week 13 approaches, with Seattle set to play a challenging Minnesota Vikings defense, the Seahawks are bolstering their running back corps. Reports from NFL insider Jordan Schutz indicate that Seattle is bringing former Vikings and Rams running back Cam Akers onto their active roster.
Seahawks add Cam Akers to active roster, strengthening running back depth
"Sources: The Seahawks are signing veteran RB Cam Akers to their active roster," Schultz reports. "Akers, still 26, spent time with the Vikings this season and now joins 8-3 Seattle for RB depth."
Seattle's running back corps could benefit from additional depth, and Akers presents a capable choice. He's previously played for The Vikings and Rams, with his most recent stint being three games for Minnesota earlier in this current season.
In his sixth NFL season, Akers has accumulated 2,044 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 507 carries, averaging 4.0 yards per attempt.

Throughout his NFL career, he's contributed to the passing game by securing 52 receptions, accumulating 388 receiving yards, and scoring four touchdowns.
This season, Akers had just five carries for The Vikings, but in 2024, he accumulated 444 yards and two touchdowns on 104 attempts for both the Vikings and the Houston Texans.
The running back group's new addition won't be to replace Walker or Charbonnet, but rather to provide additional depth, especially with George Holani injured and possibly going to Injured Reserve.
