The Seattle Seahawks ended the 2024 season with the 10th-worst pass-block win rate (58%) and the fifth-worst run-block win rate (71%) while allowing the fifth-most sacks (3.2 per game).

With that knowledge, the Seahawks were expected to overhaul their offensive line this offseason, and while they made some changes, including taking North Dakota State's Grey Zabel in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, the group doesn't appear to be much better.

Luckily for Seattle, there's still some quality help available in free agency that they could call. That includes guard Brandon Scherff, who is still looking for a job, and interestingly ESPN's Aaron Schatz recently urged the Seahawks to sign the veteran as "one last offseason move" before the season starts.

Scherff, 33, played at Iowa from 2010-14, earning All-Big Ten honors twice and All-American honors once before Washington took him in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft.

In seven seasons with Washington, he was the team's starting right guard, making five Pro Bowls and earning All-Pro honors once (2020). In 2022, Scherff inked a three-year, $49.5 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he appeared in all 51 possible games for them over the length of the deal.

Last season, Pro Football Focus ranked Scherff as the 53rd-best guard in the NFL with a 64.7 overall grade. He was 19th in pass blocking (74.5) and 97th in run blocking (57.3).

With Zabel likely playing left guard, 2024 third-round pick Christian Haynes is current expected to be on the right. Bringing in Scherff on an inexpensive, short-term deal could allow Haynes to battle Olu Oluwatini for the starting center job and provide some veteran leadership to a group that desperately needs. It could also make life much easier for quarterback Sam Darnold, the stable of quality running backs and new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in 2025.
