The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly locked up one of their key offensive linemen for the long haul right before Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Seahawks and offensive tackle Abe Lucas have agreed on a three-year, $46 million contract extension that could be worth more with incentives.
The 26-year-old was drafted in the third-round of the 2022 NFL draft and was set to play out the final year of his rookie contract before getting the aforementioned deal.
Lucas has proven to be a solid starter over his three years in the NFL, but availability has been a big problem for him. Over the past two seasons, Lucas has missed a combined total of 21 games due to injury.
Knowing that, it is a bit odd to see the Seahawks commit to Lucas this early rather than having him play out the final year and prove he can stay healthy.
That said, if Lucas pans out, this deal could look like a steal in the coming years.
At $15.3 million per season, Lucas ranks 13th among right tackles in the NFL. His total value of $46 million ranks 12 at the position.
Lucas might not be the last Seahawks tackle to get a contract extension this year, as former first-round pick Charles Cross is also due for a new deal soon. However, the expectation is Cross won't get a new contract until 2026.
