Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave some insight into how the team will use its three running backs in Week 1.
According to Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin called Jaylen Warren the team's "featured runner," but noted that we will "certainly" see some of Kenneth Gainwell and Kaleb Johnson.
"[Jaylen Warren's] progress has been very evident and he's to be congratulated," Tomlin said. "Certainly he'll be our featured runner. Certainly you'll see [Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell], but at what time and at what degree [will depend week-to-week]."
If we had to guess, Gainwell will likely see more snaps than Johnson given his edge in experience. Gainwell is also listed ahead of Johnson on the team's depth chart and has been working in front of the rookie all offseason.
But that doesn't mean this is set in stone. Johnson will have ample opportunity to move up the depth chart, although the best he can hope for is to split time with Warren, who has a strong grip on the RB1 job for now.
