In what was the Seattle Seahawks' biggest game of the 2025 campaign, quarterback Sam Darnold had his worst performance.
In the battle for first place in the NFC West against the Los Angeles Rams, Darnold completed 29-of-44 passes for 279 yards and four interceptions.
Despite how awful Darnold was, the Seahawks still nearly pulled out the win, but that was thanks to yet another impressive performance from the defense.
After the game, one of the Seahawks' Week 11 captains, linebacker Ernest Jones, had strong words for anyone who is critical of Darnold.
"Sam has had us in every f****** game. For him to say it’s on him, no it’s not. If you’ve got anything to say, f*** you,” Jones said.
Darnold has been sensational overall this season and is a major reason why the Seahawks are in the position they're currently in.
One bad game should not lead to anyone throwing him to the curb just yet.
However, this performance did nothing to dispel the idea that Darnold often comes up small in big spots, something we saw on a few occasions in his lone season as the starter with the Minnesota Vikings.
With the division on the line in 2024, Darnold threw up a stinker against the Detroit Lions in Week 18, and then followed that up with another poor performance in the season-ending loss in the playoffs to the Los Angeles Rams.
And that's really what critics are reacting to.
This isn't an outlier for Darnold and there will continue to be a huge concern about his ability to rise to the occasion in important games, which the Seahawks will be playing plenty of the rest of the way.
Seattle will walk into Week 12 in second place in the division and will try to avoid stringing together consecutive losses in a very favorable matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
