The Seattle Seahawks are 6-2, but the team could've sold a few players at the NFL trade deadline. More than likely, they'd be buyers, but a few players one expiring deals could've been traded.

While they wound up making one move, trading for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, the Seahawks had another deal on the verge of completion.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks reportedly were very close to a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs that would've sent standout linebacker Boye Mafe to the Chiefs. But at the last second, the Seahawks canceled the deal, keeping Mafe.

Seahawks nix last-second trade with Chiefs

"At Tuesday's NFL deadline, the Chiefs made a late, strong push to acquire Seahawks linebacker Boye Mafe, per sources," Schefter reports. "Some thought the deal would get done; one source even thought it was completed. But right before the deadline, Seattle opted to hold onto Mafe."

While the Seahawks are stopping the NFC West and have a chance to be the one-seed in the NFC, they could've traded Riq Woolen or Mafe to land more draft capital, while still being a competitive team in 2025.

But, they held onto both, with Mafe's non-trade the most notable. The Chiefs nearly completed the trade, but the Seahawks decided to keep Mafe for the rest of the season as they make a Super Bowl push.

The 26-year-old outside linebacker has 13 tackles and no sacks this season. He does have nine pressures, but has yet to finish a play this season for a sack.

Seattle's defense is one of the best in the NFL, and losing Mafe would've made the defense a bit worse, despite the valuable draft picks coming back.

Despite a late push from the Chiefs and the Seahawks listening, Mafe didn't get moved, as he stays in Seattle despite heavy interest from one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the AFC.
