The Seattle Seahawks made a notable roster move Tuesday, signing wide receiver Brenden Rice — the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice — to their practice squad. The addition brings a familiar name back to Seattle, where his father briefly finished his legendary career.

Jerry Rice, a 13-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion, played the final 11 games of his career with the Seahawks in 2004. While his time in Seattle was short, he remains one of the most iconic players in NFL history. Now, his son will have an opportunity to carve out his own role with the franchise.

Brenden Rice entered the league as a seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2024 NFL Draft. He appeared in three games for the Chargers, seeing all of his snaps on special teams and never recording a target on offense. Los Angeles released him prior to the start of the 2025 season, and he most recently spent time on the New England Patriots’ practice squad before being waived.

Before reaching the NFL, Rice played college football at Colorado and USC. His most productive season came in 2023 at USC, where he posted 45 receptions for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns while emerging as one of Caleb Williams’ most reliable red-zone targets.

Rice now joins a talented Seattle receiving group that includes Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, Rashid Shaheed and rookie Tory Horton, who has missed the last two games due to injury. If injuries persist or Rice impresses in practice, he could earn a call-up to the active roster and develop alongside two of the league’s most polished route runners.

After a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Seattle will try to bounce back when it faces the Tennessee Titans, one of the league’s struggling teams, this weekend.
