The San Francisco 49ers have battled injuries all season.

They got a major one a week ago, when George Kittle was hurt in the playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 'Niners move on, and now they have to navigate things without their superstar tight end.

Why isn't George Kittle playing tonight?

George Kittle isn't playing Saturday night against the Seahawks because he tore his Achilles.

The non-contact injury against the Eagles required Kittle to be carted off to the locker room.

Soon after the game, he was diagnosed officially with that brutal injury.

It will likely keep him out for some portion of the 2026 NFL season, as well.

Who is George Kittle's backup TE?

Kittle's backup at tight end is Jake Tonges.

He played a lot early in the year with Kittle out, as well.

The 49ers also have Luke Farrell to assist in some of the run-blocking that Kittle is so good at.

But when Brock Purdy is throwing to a tight end, it'll usually be Tonges, who is a big target.
