When San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams suffered a hamstring injury in Week 17, the team and fans alike were holding their breath.
Williams ended up sitting out in Week 18, but he did show signs of progress this week after turning in two limited practices before drawing the questionable tag.
With just hours to go before kickoff, here's what we know about Williams' chances of suiting up in the do-or-die wild-card game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
Is Trent Williams playing today?
Yes, Williams is expected to play on Sunday, per FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. We'll get final confirmation an hour and a half before the 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff, when the Niners release their list of inactives.
Williams labeled himself a game-time decision during the week, but also noted that he was feeling better and didn't anticipate having any issues with the injury during the game once he gets going.
“We’re gonna see, I’ll be a game-time decision,” Williams said. “Definitely more confident than I felt a week ago.”
“It’ll probably be in the back of my mind for a little bit, but once you get the juices flowing, the adrenaline, I don’t think it’ll be a problem,” Williams added.
It goes without saying how huge it is for the 49ers to have Williams on the field, as he's the team's best offensive lineman and a true difference-maker on the left side.
The 49ers used Austen Pleasants at left tackle last week and he struggled, giving up three pressures and putting up Pro Football Focus grades of 39.6 in pass-blocking and 35.1 in run-blocking.
Thankfully, barring Williams re-aggravating his injury on Sunday, the Niners won't have to worry about Pleasants seeing the field again.
