After Monday night's incident between San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings and Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig, the NFL has handed down a punishment.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the league is suspending Moehrig one game for a below-the-belt punch during Monday Night Football.
"#Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig has been suspended without pay for one game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during Monday’s game against the #49ers," wrote Rapoport in a post on X.
Tre'von Moehrig suspended one game for Jauan Jennings punch
The incident stems from a mid-game incident where Moehrig appeared to punch Jennings in the groin area.
After the game, Jennings confronted Moerhig at midfield and attempted to hit him in the face.
It appears Jennings won't face any repercussions for now, as he was the victim at the start of the situation.
ESPN's Adam Schefter is also reporting that Moehrig plans on appealing his one-game suspension.
"Tre'von Morhrig’s appeal will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline," Schefter wrote in a post on X.
Ja'Marr Chase's appeal, the most recent case heard after the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver spat on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Rams ey, was upheld.
The Panthers' safety is likely hoping his suspension is lowered to a fine.
Given that Chase was unable to get his punishment lowered, it's unlikely Moehrig will fare any better.
